Born in Japan in 1903, Tanaka witnessed and experienced significant historical events, including two world wars and the 1918 influenza pandemic. She also overcame numerous health challenges, including paratyphoid and two bouts of cancer.

Despite an initial goal of reaching 120 years old, Tanaka's remarkable lifespan solidified her place as the world's oldest person. She lived in a nursing home in Fukuoka, Japan, and enjoyed spending time with her great-grandchildren and playing board games.

Tanaka's longevity has sparked interest and curiosity in the factors contributing to her exceptionally long life. She attributed her health and well-being to a balanced diet, staying active, and her strong family support system.
